Permaculture Homestead Design and Drafting

Each session will be followed by 4-8 hours of home design and study in order to keep pace with the design process during the series. Pre-series study in forest gardening, landscape design techniques, or other topics covered in the series will insure a life changing experience and enhanced skills for ecological design.
You will learn ecological landscape design language and technique while using the permaculture design principles and process to create an ecologically balanced residence, acreage, and abundant lifestyle. Your sustainable solutions will be specific to your site, practical and productive.

Course fee includes instruction and the Permaculture Sit e Assessment Workbook (3 4 pages) design process guide and property assessment plan with many resource lists and spaces for discovering the goals of the property.

Detailed Schedule
Classes 1- 4 are lecture and practice sessions with extensive homework assignments (4-8 hrs)
Class 5 is a final design workshop finishing the concepts with plants, materials, and final critique.

Classroom Pencil Practice – Drawing Practice, Landscape Symbols, Complete Your Base Map, using Bum Wad, Mini-design charrette, students explanations for sites, Q&A,
Demonstration - Access and Water, Limitations and Design Drivers, Building Ecological Services, The Garden and Growing Fertility.
Assignment - Finish base map and start bubble maps
Determining plant size and placement, polycultures, ecological functions and seasonal access.
Assignment - Complete draft design, add plant spaces, plant width circles, groups, masses, crop types.

Permaculture is a science based ethical design system. Used to answer the all encompassing question "How do we live sustainability?" Founded in three ethics - Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share practitioners of permaculture use nature inspired design with tools and methods based in science, engineering, agriculture, finances, community building to create sustainable regenerative human habitat. This design system uses organic agriculture, urban farming, regenerative design, and many other ways of knowing to teach and provide a practical framework for individuals to take responsibility for themselves, their children and their community.
